
Men's Golf Places Fifth; Carpenter is Co-Medalist

Ball State's men's golf team finished fifth out of 19 teams at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., while TJ Carpenter earned co-medalist honors at the event.
Ball State managed a 289-286-291=866 to place fifth. Colorado and UNLV tied for the team title with three round totals of 844, while Colorado State was third with an 857 and North Carolina State was fourth with an 864.
TJ Carpenter was Ball State's top player and tied for first overall, marking the best career finish of his career. Carpenter managed a 71-67-71=209, and tied with Kevin Penner of UNLV.
This marks the second straight tournament Ball State has had a co-medalist. Tyler Merkel was the co-medalist at the season opening Northern Intercollegiate.
Merkel tied for 21st at the Air Force event with a 69-75-72=216, while Alex Stinson tied for 43rd with a 73-74-74=221. Joe Gasser tied for 51st with a 78-71-74=223, and Tony Lazzara tied for 62nd after recording a 76-74-75=225.
The event was held at Eisenhower Golf Course and included Air Force, Ball State, Colorado, Colorado State, Coastal Carolina, Denver, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, North Carolina State, San Diego, Southern Utah, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, UNLV, Weber State and Wyoming.
