Tyler Merkel Named MAC Men's Golfer of the Week

Tyler Merkel, a sophomore member of the Ball State men's golf team, has been named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week for his performance at the Northern Intercollegiate last week.
Merkel won the second event of his collegiate career when he won co-medalist honors at the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms. He managed a 68-74-70=212 to tie with Brad Schneider of Central Florida for individual honors. Merkel helped the Cardinals to a tie for fourth at the event, and Ball State was the top placing MAC team among the seven league schools.
This marks the second time Merkel has won the weekly honor in his career. He was also named the MAC Golfer of the Week last season after winning the Adidas Hoosier Invitational.
Merkel was named the MAC's Co-Freshman of the Year and was selected to the All-MAC Second Team last season after helping the Cardinals to a second-place finish at the MAC Championships.
