Brigit Reder Earns MAC Defensive Weekly Honor
September 12, 2011 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State junior defender Brigit Reder (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This marks the second straight week that a Cardinal has earned the honor (Pavla Benyrova) and is the second MAC weekly honor of Reder's career as she was recognized last season (Sept. 7).
Reder, a team captain, led the Cardinals to the championship of the Hilton Garden Inn High Altitude Tournament on the campus of Northern Arizona with a 1-0-1 record. She provided stellar efforts on both ends of the field, scoring nine points in two games and helping the Cardinals' defense hold opponents to just three goals on the weekend.
Reder became just the fourth Cardinal all-time to post a hat trick and the first Ball State defender to accomplish the feat Sunday afternoon against Lamar as all three of her goals came in the second half. She added an assist in the contest to finish with seven total points, which marks a single-game record for Ball State. She opened the tournament with a goal and an assist against host Northern Arizona.
Reder leads the Cardinals with 11 points in the first seven games on the strength of five goals and two assists. Ball State returns home to the Briner Sports Complex Friday afternoon as it hosts Marshall. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and admission is free.
