FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Ball State soccer team claimed the Hilton Garden Inn High Altitude Tournament championship this weekend on the campus of Northern Arizona. The Cardinals posted a 1-0-1 record on the weekend to secure the title to finish ahead of host NAU (0-0-2), Evansville (0-0-2) and Lamar (0-1-1).
The Cardinals opened the weekend battling to a 2-2 tie against the host Lumberjacks, despite out-shooting Northern Arizona by a 22-13 margin. Ball State wrapped up the title with a dominating performance against Lamar, posting a 5-1 victory Sunday afternoon. The five goals scored are the most for Ball State in a game since posting five against IPFW in 2007 (Aug. 31).
Junior defender Brigit Reder (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) led all scorers in the tournament, posting nine points in two games on the strength of four goals and an assist. She started the tournament with a goal against Northern Arizona before becoming the fourth Cardinal all-time to record a hat trick, accomplishing the feat against Lamar. She scored seven total points against Lamar, marking a new single-game record for Ball State.
Freshman forward Jasmine Moses (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) added two goals on the weekend, marking the first two tallies of her career. She scored her first career goal in her first start Sunday while taking just her second career shot.
Ball State returns home to the Briner Sports Complex Friday afternoon as it hosts Marshall. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and admission is FREE.
