Soccer Opens 2011 Practice

MUNCIE, Ind. - Under of the direction of second-year head coach Craig Roberts, the Ball State soccer team opened the 2011 preseason schedule Wednesday afternoon at the newly minted Briner Sports Complex. The Cardinals reported to campus Tuesday and partook in a fitness test Wednesday morning prior to their first practice.
The Cardinals return 18 letterwinners from last season's team and welcome in 12 freshmen in Robert's fist complete recruiting class. Leading the charge for Ball State as captains Sarah Orisich (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and Brigit Reder (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West).
Orisich, a redshirt junior midfielder, led the Cardinals in scoring last season with 10 points on the strength of four goals and two assists. Reder, a junior defender, has made 35 starts on defense in her first two seasons as a Cardinal.
Ball State begins play Friday, August 12 as it hosts Big East foe Cincinnati in an exhibition game. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and will be the first ever game played at the Briner Sports Complex. The Cardinals open the 2011 regular season August 19 as they face Murray State in the first game of the Western Kentucky Tournament.
