Two Men's Golfers Qualify for U. S. Amateur

Two members of the Ball State men's golf team -- Tyler Merkel and Alex Stinson -- have qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championships Monday through Sunday in Erin, Wis.
At 7,760 yards, the 2011 U.S. Amateur will be the longest course in USGA history. The qualifying rounds will be played at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis., and Blue Mount Golf and Country Club in Wauwatosa, Wis.
Merkel qualified for the U.S. Amateur after firing a two round total 143 at Crestwicke Country Club in Bloomington, Ill. Merkel won his qualifier by one stroke over Preston Bradley, and was one of three to advance from his site.
Stinson advanced out of Cincinnati, Ohio, after firing a two-round total 140 at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. He tied with Danny Lewis and Blaine Woodruff to advance.
The event will be televised on The Golf Channel and NBC. Air times on Wednesday is 2-4 p.m., while Thursday and Friday will be Noon to 2 p.m. NBC will air the event from 3-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
