Men's Golfers Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

Alex Stinson, a junior on the Ball State men's golf team, was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, which is voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives.
Stinson was one of eight student-athletes named to the team, while TJ Carpenter, Joe Gasser and Tony Lazzara each received honorable mention on the Academic All-MAC Team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Stinson managed a 75.61 average for the Cardinals as a sophomore. He tallied two top-10 and four top-20 finishes in 2010-11. Stinson managed a career low score of 71 five times in his first two seasons. He tallied a career best third-place showing at the Mizzou Intercollegiate in April. Stinson owns a 3.768 GPA on Ball State's 4.0 scale as a general studies major.
Carpenter, who owns a 3.224 GPA as an accounting major, managed a career low 69 at the Renaissance Invitational last October. He tallied a career best finish at the Earl Yestingsmeier last April when he tied for eighth.
Gasser owns a 3.203 GPA as an elementary major at Ball State. He managed a season low 71 at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate last September and a season low 54-hole total of 222 at the adidas Hoosier Invitational in April. Gasser tallied a career best finish of tied for sixth at the SIU-Edwardsville Double Tree Intercollegiate in 2010-11.
Tony Lazzara, who owns a 3.218 GPA as an entrepreneurship major, tied his career low with a 70 at the Cardinal Intercollegiate last September, where he also tied his career low 54-hole total with a 221.
