May 16, 2011 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State soccer signee Hannah Chadick (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) has been named the 2011 Gatorade Kansas Girls Soccer Player of the Year, the Gatorade Company in conjunction with ESPN RISE announced Monday. Chadick is one of nine recruits signed by second-year head coach Craig Roberts and will join the Cardinals in the fall.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Chadick as Kansas' best high school girls soccer player. She is now also a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year Award, which will be announced later this month.
"We are very happy for Hannah to receive this award," Roberts said. "The initial talent that was recognized when we first started recruiting her is starting to show. I believe she will continue to blossom as she begins her career at Ball State. We hope this is the start of many highly recognized awards she will receive."
Chadick, a 6-0 forward, has led the Huskies to a 13-3 record and a berth into the Class 6A Northeast Regional. She has scored 15 goals and handed out five assists through 16 games. Additionally, she owns a 3.51 GPA in the classroom and has volunteered locally with the Salvation Army, as a youth soccer coach and as an athletic trainer at her school.
Chadick, a 2010 Class A First Team All-State selection, is a four-time Eastern Kansas League Scholar Athlete honoree. She enters the regional tournament as Blue Valley Northwest's career leader with 29 goals. She will be joined on the 2011 Ball State soccer team by her twin sister Ellie Chadick (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest), who is also a standout at Blue Valley Northwest.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by ESPN RISE and the Gatorade high school sports leadership team, which work with top sport specific experts and a media advisory board of accomplished, veteran prep sports journalists to determine the state winners in each sport.
