Softball Suffers 1-0 Loss at Akron

AKRON, Ohio - The Ball State University softball team (22-14, 3-1 MAC) closed out its four-game Mid-American Conference road series with a 1-0 loss to Akron (14-11, 2-2 MAC) Sunday afternoon at the Lee R. Jackson Field.
With the loss, BSU drops to 22-14 overall and 3-1 in the MAC. Akron improves to 14-11 and 2-2 in league action.
After five and a half scoreless innings, the Zips' Katie Gross hit a solo shot to give Akron the first and lone run of the ball game.
In its last inning, BSU left one person on base but was unable to score.
Designated hitter Jennifer Gilbert (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) led the Cardinals offensively after going 3-for-2 at the plate. Sophomore pitcher Audra Sanders (Lynnville, Ind./Tecumseh) suffered the loss on the mound after 6.0 innings of work, falling to 12-8 on the season.
The Ball State softball team continues MAC action at Miami Saturday. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
