Men's Golfer Tyler Merkel Receives Academic Honor

Tyler Merkel, a freshman member of the Ball State men's golf team, was named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Merkel, who owns a 3.937 grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale as a business major, won the adidas Hoosier Invitational. Merkel tallied a 71-68-70=209, and won the event by one stroke over David Erdy of Indiana and Kent Monas of Cleveland State.
Merkel helped the Cardinals to a seventh-place finish in the 16-team field. It marked the first career victory for Merkel. He was also honored as the MAC Golfer of the Week, marking the first time to received each of these weekly awards in his career.
