Tyler Merkel Named MAC Golfer of the Week

Tyler Merkel, a freshman member of the Ball State men's golf team, has been named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week for his performance at the adidas Hoosier Invitational last weekend.
Merkel won the adidas Hoosier Invitational at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind., last Saturday and Sunday.
Merkel marked his first collegiate career victory with a 71-68-70=209. The victory marked his second top-20 finish of the season, as he won the tournament by one stroke over two players in the 78-player field.
Merkel's award marked the second straight week a Ball State men's golfer received the weekly award. Alex Stinson was named the league's Golfer of the Week after finishing third at the Mizzou Intercollegiate April 4-5.
Ball State is hosting the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational Saturday and Sunday at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind. The event will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start each day. The tournament is open to the public and admission is free of charge.
