CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Ball State softball team fell 4-0 to Quinnipiac and 21-0 to Florida in five innings on day two of the Under Armour Showcase at the Eddie C. Moore Complex, tallying a 0-4 mark in tournament play and an 11-9 record on the season.
Versus Quinnipiac, senior right fielder Alyssa Collins (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) went 2-for-3 at the plate, while senior shortstop Alicia Barkley (Oklahoma City, Okla./Putnam City) and sophomore left fielder Amanda Carpenter (Santee, Calif./Santana) tallied one hit in three appearances each, while Carpenter accumulated one double.
Pitchers Kim Mazzapica (Pam Harbor, Fla./East Lake) and Audrey Workman (Wickenburg, Ariz./Wickenburg) split just over six innings in the circle as the pair allowed for seven hits, while walking three Bobcats batters and striking out seven.
Against Florida, senior center fielder Lisa Rozanski (Tampa, Fla/Daytona Beach CC) and Collins went 1-for-3 and 1-for-2 respectively, while freshman third baseman Audrey Bickel (Munster, Ind./Andrean) and sophomore catcher Amanda Montalto (Las Vegas Nev./Palo Verde) tallied one hit each.
From the circle, pitchers Audra Sanders (Lynnville, Ind./Tecumseh), Workman and Lauren Williamson (Anderson, Ind./Highland) allowed for 12 hits, in addition to walking 17 and recording three strikeouts.
Ball State will complete its play in the tournament Sunday against St. Joseph's at noon. Head coach Craig Nicholson and the team open the home portion of the 2011 season in a doubleheader versus Dayton at the BSU Softball Complex, beginning at 3 p.m. on March 24.
