Men's Golf Opens Spring Season Saturday in Florida

Ball State's men's golf team opens the spring portion of its schedule Saturday in a 36-hole match play event against Indiana at Grey Oaks Country Club in Naples, Fla.
Ball State's lineup will include Eric Steger, Tyler Merkel, TJ Carpenter, Tony Lazzara, Joe Gasser and Alex Stinson.
Each of the Cardinals will play two matches against a different IU opponent and play in foursomes for the day.
All matches are individual matches. The morning competition will be played at the Pines Course, while the afternoon matches will be played on the Estuary Course.
Steger leads the Cardinals with a 71.48 matches through the fall season. He has posted three top-10 finishes this year, including a second place showing at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in the 2010-11 season opener.
Carpenter is second on the squad with a 73.50 average, while Merkel is third with a 74.08 mark. Lazzara owns a 74.50 average so far this season, while Gasser is averaging 76.00 and Stinson is at 76.26.
Ball State will resume its spring schedule Feb. 11-12 at The Players Club of Tampa in Tampa, Fla.
