WBB Loses at Home to Detroit Mercy, 87-68

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team (3-4) dropped an 87-68 decision to Detroit Mercy (1-6) Thursday night in Worthen Arena.
Three Cardinals managed double figures on the night with freshman guard Brittany Carter leading the way with a career-high 15 points. Sophomore forward Jazmin Hitchens chipped in 14 points, while senior center and co-captain Amber Crago ended the night with 12 points.
Detroit Mercy led the entire second half despite Ball State pulling within 12 points at the 16:41 mark. The Cardinals were held to a 40.6 percent shooting mark from the field while, Detroit Mercy shot 61.8 percent.
Crago and Brandy Woody led Ball State with five rebounds apiece, while Carter, Suzanne Grossnickle, Shelbie Justice, Shanee Jackson and Mercedes Miller added three apiece.
At halftime the Cardinals trailed the Titans by a score of 39-28 after three lead changes and one tie. Hitchens opened the game up for Ball State with a quick jumper to give Ball State the early 2-0 edge over Detroit Mercy but the Titans quickly answered back.
The Cardinals last led at the 17:10 mark before the Titans took the lead and never looked back, eventually building a 14- point (31-17) advantage over Ball State with 6:03 remaining and then again 39-25 with 43 seconds to play in the first half.
