WBB Wins in 2OT at Home Against Stetson

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State's women's basketball team tallied a 78-73 double overtime victory over Stetson Sunday afternoon in Worthen Arena. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 4-4 overall, while Stetson fell to 6-3.
After the game was tied, 67-67, with 3:46 left in 2OT, Ball State would then lead the remainder of overtime after making six straight free throws down the stretch to earn the Cardinals the victory. With the Cardinals ahead 72-71 with 1:54 left in the second bonus period, Ball State's Mercedes Miller's layup at the 1:27 mark gave the Cardinals a 74-71 lead. Free throws by Jazmin Hitchens and one by Miller gave Ball State a 77-71 lead with 22 seconds left to play. Brittany Carter's free throw with 13 seconds to play, the Cardinals tallied a 78-73 lead and the victory.
With seconds remaining in the first overtime, the Cardinals led 65-62 but Stetson's Victoria McGowan knocked down a three pointer for Stetson with 0.2 seconds left in the game to it into a double overtime. It was the first double overtime competition for the Cardinals this season. The last Ball State double overtime game was at home against Butler, Dec. 12, 2010, which resulted in a 105-98 loss for the Cardinals.
Carter, who led the Cardinals in scoring in its last game, along with Hitchens tied for Ball State's leading scorers with 20 points apiece. Miller tallied a career-high 11 points, while Katie Murphy tied her personal best rebound performance with 12.
For the game Ball State out-rebounded Stetson 42-to-37 and shot 46.4 from the field, while Stetson was held to a 44.3 field goal percentage.
Ball State returns to non-conference road play when it travels to in-state rival Butler Friday in Hinkle Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
