AKRON, Ohio - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team improves to 4-0 in the 2011-12 season after defeating Mid-American Conference opponent Akron, 155-145, Saturday afternoon at Ocasek Natatorium.
The squad scored victories in eight of the 16 events, with a pair of Cardinals collecting a pair of individual event victories.
Sophomore swimmer Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) added first-place efforts in the 100 breast (1:05.01) and 200 breast (2:22.00) and also swam the second leg for the first-place 200 medley relay which clocked in at 1:46.97.
Sophomore Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) tallied first-place wins in the 100 butterfly (56.29) and the 200 IM (2:08.43) and also swam the third leg for the 200 medley relay.
Freshman Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) tallied a win in the 50 free (24.64) and swam the anchor for the 200 medley relay and the first-place 400 freestyle relay which clocked in at 3:31.99.
Other individuals scoring wins for the Cardinals were senior diver Christina Riordan (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor) on the three-meter board (276.67), while senior Nicole Saulters swam the first leg of the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.
Sophomores Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) and Mia Miller (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) also swam the second and third legs for the 400 freestyle relay, respectively.
Ball State returns to action at the two-day IUPUI House of Champions in Indianapolis, starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday from the IUPUI Natatorium.
