Women?s S&D Captures House of Champions Title

Indianapolis - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team earned its seventh consecutive IUPUI House of Champions title after tallying 831 points during the two-day event at IUPUI Natatorium, featuring nine teams.
Xavier finished second with 601 points, followed by St. Louis (535), the host IUPUI (465), Centre College (317), Butler (264) Eastern Illinois (204), Western Illinois (157) and Ohio Wesleyan (127).
Ball State posted its first of seven individual event wins in the 50 free as freshman swimmer Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) clocked in with a time of 24.66.
Two events later, senior Nicole Saulters (Highland, Ind./Highland), sophomore Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell), sophomore Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) and Magley tallied a time of 3:57.54 in the 400 medley relay to capture the win by nearly five seconds.
Then, Saulters, Ruehl, Richter and Magley returned in the next event, tallying a first-place win in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:47:64.
Ball State's fourth event victory of the meet came in the 400 IM, as junior swimmer Mackenzie Imbro (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) posted a time of 4:36.33.
Richter followed with a first-place performance in the 100 fly with a time of 57.03 and sophomore Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) picked up a win in the 200 free (1:55.20).
Ruehl also recorded an individual event win in the 100 breast (1:06.18), while sophomore Stacey Wierman (Munster, Ind./Munster) placed a close second, clocking in at 1:07.98.
Two events later, junior Jillian Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights), sophomore Mia Miller (Goshen, Ind./Goshen), Richter and Wisolek combined for a time of 7:50.54 in the first-place 800 freestyle relay.
Then, a trio of Cardinals swimmers in Ruehl, Imbro and Wierman returned in the 200 breast to tally first (2:23.39), second (2:27.10) and third place (2:29.80) victories, respectively.
Ball State also turned in a dominating performance on the diving boards with senior Christina Riordan (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor H.S.) winning the 3-meter (303.00), while fellow senior Whitney Adams (Danville, Ind./Danville) captured second place (255.70) in the event.
The Cardinals returns to action Friday, when the squad opens competition in the 2011 Doug Coers Invitational. The two-day event begins at 6 p.m. Friday, and begins again at 9 a.m. Saturday.
