WBB Wins on the Road at In-State Rival Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball (3-3) evened its overall record after its 55-50 defeat over in-state rival Evansville (1-5) Tuesday night in the Ford Center.
The Cardinals were led by sophomore forward Jazmin Hitchens with 11 points while freshman guard Shelbie Justice managed a season- high eight points. Defensively Katie Murphy pulled down a career best 12 rebounds.
With the second half playing out much like the first, both teams traded baskets that consisted of multiple lead changes and ties. Sophomore guard Brandy Woody connected on a three-point play that gave Ball State the 51-48 advantage over the Purple Aces. The deciding factor was free throws down the stretch from Hitchens and freshman guard Brittany Carter that sealed the victory for the Cardinals.
Junior guard Shanee' Jackson hit a bucket and Justice knocked down a trey that led to the Cardinals 42-39 lead over Evansville with 10:06 left to play in the contest.
The entire first half was a defensive effort by both teams, sophomore guard Jordan Huber hit the first three-pointer of the contest with 7:38 remaining in the first period off of the dish from Woody to come within one-point of Evansville, 11-10.
The largest lead of the half came under the three minute mark after Carter and Hitchens made back-to-back three's to give the Cardinals the 22-16 edge over the Purple Aces. After trading baskets for the remainder of the half, Ball State came out on top leading 24-23 heading into the lockerroom.
