Soccer Picks Up Postseason MAC Honors
November 03, 2011 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State junior defender Brigit Reder (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was named Second Team All-Mid-American Conference while midfielder Pavla Benyrova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Prague 9) and forward Jasmine Moses (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) earned spots on the MAC All-Freshmen Team, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
Reder, a team captain, picks up her first career postseason accolade after leading the all MAC defenders in scoring with 16 points on the strength of seven goals and two assists. Her 16 points are the most in a single-season by a Ball State defender in program history and ranks ninth all-time among all players in season annals. She also became the third player in program history to record a hat trick and the first BSU defender to accomplish the feat as she scored three goals at Northern Arizona (Sept. 9).
Reder anchored the Cardinals' defense which posted six shutouts on the year on its way to a 9-9-3 overall record and a sixth seed in the MAC Tournament. She was named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week twice this season while also picking up MAC Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 12) honors. She becomes the first Ball State defender to earn All-MAC honors since 2007 (Jen Vilkoski, second team).
Benyrova and Moses earned spots on the MAC All-Freshmen team, marking the first time since 2007 (Kristina Anderson & Cortney Coombs) that the Cardinals have recorded multiple spots on the team. Ball State is one of just three MAC team with multiple representatives on the rookie team this year.
Benyrova, a member of the Czech Republic National Team, started all 21 games for the Cardinals in the midfield and on defense. She finished the year fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and an assist. She was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 6) after scoring her first career goal in double overtime against Indiana State from the backline. She also scored in league games against Western Michigan and Northern Illinois.
Moses, a walk-on, tied for the team lead with seven goals to pace all MAC freshmen in goals scored despite not playing the first two games of the year. She also finished the year tied for the league lead with four game-winning goals, the most by any freshman. Her seven goals rank seventh all-time in Ball State single-season scoring records while her four game-clinching goals are second all-time. She picked up MAC Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 10) honors after scoring goals against Akron and Ohio.
