Women?s S&D Secures Doug Coers Invitational Title

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team earned the Doug Coers Invitational title after defeating five teams during the two-day event at Lewellen Aquatic Center with a score of 734.
Marshall University finished second with 550 points, followed by Grand Valley State University (399), the University of Findlay (185), Lewis University (125) and Valparaiso University (110).
Ball State got to a quick start, as the Cardinals posted their first victory in the first event, the 200 freestyle relay. Senior Nicole Saulters (Highland, Ind./Highland), sophomore Mia Miller (Goshen, Ind./Goshen), junior Mallory Przybylinski (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and freshman Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) combined to record the first-place win at 1:37.77.
Ball State posted its first of seven individual event wins in the 200 IM as sophomore Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) clocked in with a time of 2:07.96. Magley followed with a first-place performance in the 50 free with a time of 24.58.
Four events later, Saulters, sophomore Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell), Richter and Magley tallied a time of 3:54.67 in the 400 medley relay to capture the victory. Then, the quartet returned Saturday to open the invitational with a first-place win in the 200 medley relay (1:48:32).
Junior swimmer Mackenzie Imbro (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) followed with a first-place performance in the 400 IM with a time of 4:38.34 and Richter picked up a win in the 100 fly (56.46), while Ruehl returned in the 100 breast, as the art major clocked in at 1:05.73.
To secure Ball State's ninth victory of the meet, Richter, sophomore Cheyanne Jackson (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights), junior Jillian Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights) and sophomore Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) combined to post a first-place win in the 800 freestyle relay (7:47.30).
Then, Saulters, Bischoff, Richter, Magley also recorded a first-place win in the 400 freestyle relay, clocking in at 3:36.10, to capture the win by just over two seconds.
On the diving boards, senior Christina Riordan (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor H.S.) won the 1-meter (245.30), while fellow senior Whitney Adams (Danville, Ind./Danville) captured second place (243.80) in the event and a first-place victory on the 3-meter (264.10).
The Cardinals return to action Saturday, Dec. 10 when Ball State hosts Michigan State from Lewellen Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.
