WBB Suffers 74-55 Setback at Wright State Sunday

FAIRBORN, Ohio - The Ball State University women's basketball team (0-2) suffered a 74-55 loss to Wright State (1-0) Sunday afternoon in the Nutter Center.
Sophomore Katie Murphy scored six straight points in the opening minutes of the second half. The Cardinals tried to fight back and came within 11 (54-43) after Murphy had a fast break layup at the 11:31 mark, but Ball State could never overcome its 18-point halftime deficit.
Freshman guard Brittany Carter scored the first basket right out of the chute in the opening minutes of the game. Ball State took an early 10-4 advantage over Wright State after back-to-back three pointers from junior guard Mercedes Miller and sophomore guard Brandy Woody.
Ball State led 13-10 with 13:03 left in the half, but the Raiders would put together a 13-0 run to give them a 26-13 lead over the Cardinals. Sophomore guard Jordan Huber snapped Wright State's scoring spree after hitting her first three pointer of the game with under seven minutes remaining. Wright State would end the half up 39-21 over the Cardinals.
Carter for the second straight game led the Cardinals in scoring with 10 points. Ball State had three players chip in eight points, senior center Amber Crago, Woody and Murphy who also added nine rebounds on the day.
The Ball State women's basketball team will continue non-conference road play when it travels to SIU-Edwardsville, Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
