Women's Basketball Loses at SIU-Edwardsville, 68-56

Edwardsville, Ill. - The Ball State women's basketball team (0-3) lost on the road Wednesday night by a score of 68-56 to SIU-Edwardsville (2-0) at the Vadalabene Center.
Ball State had two players in double figures; with sophomore forward Jazmin Hitchens leading the way with 14- points while teammate guard Brandy Woody added 12 points on the night. Senior center Amber Crago led the Cardinals defensively with eight rebounds.
The Cougars came out in the second half opening up a seven-point lead, 35-28. But the Cardinals would not back down as freshman guard Brittany Carter hit two free throws to start a 7-0 run by Ball State. The Cardinals would tie the game 35-35 with 14:05 remaining in the second half when Woody completed a three-point play after she was fouled off of a layup.
SIU-Edwardsville would then go on a 15-4 run in the next eight minutes to take a commanding lead and never looked back.
Both teams fought hard on the defensive end at the start of the game. The Cardinals scored their first bucket at the 12:20 mark in the first half after a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jordan Huber. The Cardinals held their own defensively holding the Cougars to just six- points in the first 11 minutes of the game.
Ball State trailed 24-15 just under the two minute mark in the first half, but Hitchens knocked down a three- pointer which sparked a 7-0 run for the Cardinals. Ball State would trail the Cougars 24-22 at the half.
