Brigit Reder Named MAC Scholar Athlete Of The Week
October 07, 2011 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. - For the second time this season, Ball State junior defender Brigit Reder (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) has been named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week. Reder becomes the first MAC student-athlete to win the award multiple times this season as she picked up the honor September 16.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Reder owns a 3.927 GPA in special education and led the Cardinals to two road victories last weekend at preseason MAC East Division favorite Miami and Bowling Green. She scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season against the RedHawks Friday. Her six goals ranks second in the MAC this season and she leads all league defenders in scoring.
Reder, a team captain, helped the Cardinals post their fourth shutout of the season last weekend to improve to 8-4-1 on the year and 3-1-0 in MAC play. The Cardinals' eight victories already surpasses last season's win total (seven) and are the most wins since 2008 (nine).
