Soccer Hosts Akron & Ohio This Weekend

Ball State returns home to the Briner Sports Complex and begins a four-game home stand this weekend ... The Cardinals will host Mid-American Conference East Division foes Arkon Friday at 4 p.m. and Ohio Sunday at 2 p.m.
Upping The Win Total . . .
Ball State enters the weekend with an 8-4-1 overall record and a 3-1-1 mark in Mid-American Conference play ... The Cardinals' eight wins have already surpassed last season's win total (seven), while their three MAC wins has eclipsed last year's mark (one) as well ... Ball State has already recorded its most wins in a season since tallying nine wins in 2008.
Additionally, the Cardinals have won six out of their last seven games heading into the weekend ... Ball State has not posted a seven-game stretch this strong since the 2007 season when it also won six of seven ... That year, the Cardinals posted a 13-5-2 record, including a 9-1-1 mark in MAC play to win its second straight regular season title.

Ball State has scored 24 goals this season with 11 of its goals coming from its defensive back line ... Junior defender Brigit Reder leads the Cardinals in scoring with six goals on the year ... Reder is the highest scoring defender in the Mid-American Conference this year and ranks second in the league overall in goals scored ... Her six goals are the most in a single season by a Cardinals' defender in Ball State history and ranks 10th all-time overall on the single-season goals scored list.
Freshman Pavla Benyrova is third on the team with three goals while junior Skylar Chew and freshman Victoria Jacobs have also recorded a goal this year ... Jacobs found the back of the net Sunday afternoon, notching the game-winning tally at Bowling Green for her first career goal.
Freshmen Stepping Up . . .
Ball State has an 11-member freshman class this season and they have made an impact on the team during the first 13 games ... Six different freshmen have scored goals this season, while four freshmen have handed out assists ... Additionally, five different freshmen have started at least seven games this year.
Forward Jasmine Moses is second on the team and tied for fifth in the Mid-American Conference in scoring with five goals this season ... Defender Pavla Benyrova has scored three goals this season while forward Hannah Chadick, midfielder Ellie Chadick, midfielder Becca Sutton and defender Victoria Jacobs have each found the back of the net this season.
Sutton leads the team and the freshman class with four assists while Ellie Chadick has handed out two helpers ... Additionally, Cailey Starck and Benyrova each have an assist this year.
Series History . . .
Friday's game marks the 11th meeting all-time between Ball State and Akron ... The Cardinals lead the all-time series by a 5-2-3 margin, despite dropping the last two in the series on the road ... Last season, the Cardinals suffered a 3-1 loss at Akron as the Zips scored two goals in the first 21 minutes ... Defender Brigit Reder scored the game's lone goal in the loss for the Cardinals ... Friday's game also marks the fifth visit all-time by Akron to Muncie, with the Cardinals holding a 3-0-1 record all-time at home.
Sunday's game marks the 15th meeting all-time between Ball State and Ohio ... The Cardinals trail the all-time series by a 4-9-1 margin but are 2-2-1 all-time in games played in Muncie ... Sunday, the Cardinals recorded their fifth shutout of the season as junior goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler tallied three saves in the victory ... Freshman defender Victoria Jacobs scored her first career goal in the 17th minute while junior midfielder Maggie Brown added a goal in the 32nd minute of play.

Kelsey Pichel and Toye Famodu lead the team in scoring with seven points each (3g, 1a) ... Famodu was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week Monday after scoring goals in each of the Bobcats' victories ... Rachael Philpot leads the team with two assists.

MAC Weekly Honors . . .
Ball State has claimed two Mid-American Conference weekly honors this season as freshman Pavla Benyrova and junior Brigit Reder have earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season ... Benyrova picked up the honors for the week of Aug. 29-Sept 4 ... She scored her first career collegiate goal in dramatic fashion against Indiana State, posting the game-winning double-overtime goal to lift the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory.
Reder, the team's captain and defensive leader, took home the honor for the week of Sept 5-11 as she scored nine points in two games and helped the Cardinals' defense hold opponents to just three goals in the tournament ... Reder became just the fourth Cardinal all-time to post a hat trick and the first Ball State defender to accomplish the feat against Lamar as all three of her goals came in the second half ... Her seven points against Lamar are a Ball State single-game record ... She opened the tournament with a goal against host Northern Arizona.
All-Tournament Honors . . .
Junior defenders Skylar Chew and Brigit Reder along with junior midfielder Maggie Brown earned All-Tournament accolades at the WKU Tournament in the first weekend of the season ... Chew and Reder led the Cardinals to a season-opening shutout while Brown scored two goals in two games to open the season.
Looking Ahead . . .
Ball State wraps up the home portion of the 2011 regular season next weekend as it hosts Buffalo and Kent State next weekend ... The Cardinals then hit the road for their final three games of the regular season at Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Toledo.
