Women?s S&D Hosts a Pair of Meets This Weekend

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team opens its 2011-12 home schedule Friday at Lewellen Aquatic Center when it hosts Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a meet starting at 6 p.m.
Ball State returns to action Saturday afternoon as the squad hosts Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green at 1 p.m.
Ball State owns a 1-0 record on the young season after defeating Evansville, 162-138, Saturday afternoon at Roy and Mary Wyttenbach Pool. The Cardinals scored victories in eight of the 16 events, with two different BSU swimmers collecting a pair of individual event victories.
Sophomore swimmer Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) tallied wins in the 100 breast (1:05.89) and 200 breast (2:22.56) and also swam the second leg for the first-place 200 medley relay which clocked in at 1:48.26. For her efforts, Ruehl earned MAC Co-Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
In her first collegiate meet, freshman Carlena Magley (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) tallied a win in the 50 free (24.62) and the 100 free (53.63) and also swam the anchor for the first-place 400 freestyle relay which clocked in at 3:35.44.
Senior diver Whitney Adams (Danville, Ind./Danville) had a standout showing on the one-meter board (235.70), while sophomore swimmer Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City) scored a win in the 100 fly, clocking in at 56.89. Richter also swam the first leg for the 400 freestyle relay.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee fell to Wisconsin, 175-116, Friday, Oct. 7 and defeated Grand Valley State, 144-99, Saturday, Oct. 15 for a 1-1 record on the season.
The meet Friday marks the first time the Cardinals and the Panthers will meet, however both head coach Kyle Clements and assistant coach Brittany Sayler swam under the direction of head coaches Bob Thomas and Laura Seibold-Caudill at Ball State.
Under the guidance of second-year head coach Petra Martin, Bowling Green enters the 2011-12 season with a 2-0 record after defeating John Carroll and Oakland in Fremont, Ohio. The Falcons host the Ohio Bobcats Friday afternoon in Bowling Green, Ohio before facing the Cardinals Saturday.
