
Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Prestigious Firestone

Ball State's men's golf team finished fifth out of 17 teams at the prestigious Firestone Invitational at the Firestone Country Club North Course in Akron, Ohio.
The Cardinals managed a 291-285-288=864 to finish one stroke behind the country's No. 36 ranked SMU Mustangs. Indiana, which is ranked 34th in the nation, tied for first with St. Mary's (Calif.) with a team score of 854. Iowa State was third with an 859.
TJ Carpenter and Alex Stinson tied for 16th at the event with identical scores of 215. Carpenter managed a 71-69-75, while Stinson tallied a 73-72-70. The finish marked a third top-20 for Carpenter this season, while Stinson also tallied his third top-20 showing.
Tyler Merkel tied for 27th with a 75-74-69=218, Joe Gasser tallied a 72-72-75=218 to tie for 30th and Tony Lazzara tied for 56th with a 78-72-74=224.
Brodie Williams competed as an individual and carded a 70-72-79=221 to tie for 42nd at the event.
Ball State has completed its fall season, and will return to action Feb. 13-14 at the MAC Match Play event in Dade City, Fla.
