Maggert's Double-Double Leads WBB to Win

Ball State's senior forward Emily Maggert tallied her 29th career double-double to lead the Cardinals to a 66-49 win over Miami University Wednesday night in Worthen Arena.? With the victory, Ball State improved to 9-11 overall and 4-3 in the Mid-American Conference.
With the loss, the RedHawks fall to 10-10 overall and 2-5 in league play.? Ball State will return to action Saturday at Buffalo in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
Ball State started out missing its first six shots and falling behind 7-0 before a Maggert layup at the 15:58? mark on an assist from Jazmin Hitchens put the Cardinals on the board.? Hitchens tallied a career high four assists in the game.?
The Cardinals responded with an 8-0 run over the next 3:28 to claim the lead back at 8-7, but Miami University maintained a slight lead until Maggert's three pointer at the 9:46 mark put Ball State back ahead 13-11.
The teams traded baskets until a 7-1 Ball State run ended on an Ebony Jackson layup and put the Cardinals ahead 23-18 with 3:35 left in the first half.
Ball State limited the RedHawks to 24 percent shooting and forced 10 turnovers in the first half to claim a 26-22 advantage at the break.? Maggert led Ball State's offense in the first half with nine points and 11 rebounds, and was on her way to a 29th career double-double and her seventh of the season.
Maggert opened second half play with a surge and her three pointer at the 16:58 mark gave her the double-double for the contest.? Minutes into the second stanza, Maggert led all players with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
At the 15:35 mark, Brandy Woody made a?fast break layup?to give Ball State a 40-31 advantage,?its largest lead of the game.? The Cardinals put together another scoring run and outscored the RedHawks 12-2 after a Ty'Ronda Benning three pointer put Ball State ahead 52-33.
Miami cut the lead to 56-44 at the 4:16 mark, but the Cardinals scored the next four points to maintain a 58-44 advantage with 3:21 to play and put the game out of reach
Maggert finished the game with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Benning added 13 points and six assists.? Jackson and Woody added eight points apiece for the?Cardinals.
Ball State limited the RedHawks to 27 percent shooting for the game, including 22 percent from three-point range,?and forced 18 turnovers in the contest.?
