Athletics Reps Speak at East Washington Academy
January 25, 2011 | Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Women's Volleyball
Ball State's athletics department sent student-athletes and coaches to the East Washington Academy in Muncie to speak on the importance of academics and education.
Student-athletes from the football team, men's and women's basketball teams and Kelli Miller, an assistant women's volleyball coach, joined Charlie Cardinal at the event.
Kyle Hoke (football), Adrian Tucker (men's basketball) and Emily Maggert (women's basketball) joined Coach Miller at the convocation.
Each of the athletics representatives spoke on their area of study and how they got to where they are today in relation to academics. The group spoke to a standing room only crowd in the gymnasium as the entire student body plus family members were in attendance.
"It was a great experience," Tucker says. "The kids seemed very appreciative to have us there. It was a chance for us to give back to the Muncie community. If we can do these things and just touch one person, it is certainly worth the effort."
Ball State student-athletes and coaches perform over 4,000 hours of community service a year. If your organization has a need for any community outreach from the Ball State athletics department, contact the athletics office at 765.285.1671.
