
Women's S&D Captures Butler Invitational Title

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team captured victories in 10 of 16 events to claim the 2011 Butler Invitational title Sunday afternoon at Fishers High School.
The Cardinals tallied 802.5 points to out-distance second-place Xavier which scored 586.5. Hillsdale College (326) placed third, followed by Valparaiso (190) and host Butler (112).
Freshman Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City H.S.) was BSU's top performer on the day, collecting a pair of individual wins and participating on both first-place relays. Richter's first win came in the 100 freestyle (53.37) and she followed with a victory in the 100 butterfly (57.57).
Richter joined junior Nicole Saulters (Highland, Ind./Highland H.S.), sophomore Cori Vormohr (Portland, Ind./Jay County H.S.) and sophomore Mallory Przybylinski (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) on the 200 medley relay which opened the meet with a first-place time of 1:49.87.
Richter ended the meet by joining freshman Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge H.S.), freshman Mia Miller (Goshen, Ind./Goshen H.S.) and senior Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney H.S.) on the first-place 400 freestyle relay which turned in a winning time of 3:36.94.
Ball State also turned in a dominating performance on the diving boards with junior Christina Riordan (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor H.S.) winning the one-meter (267.00) and sophomore Natalie Grissom (Franklin, Ind./Franklin H.S.) capturing the top spot in the three-meter (220.00) event.
Four freshman also scored individual wins for the Cardinals; Jackie Iglesias (Aurora, Ind./West Aurora H.S.) in the 100 backstroke (59.69), Bridgette Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell H.S.) in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.10), Mallory Miles (Holland, Ind./Southridge H.S.) in the 400 IM (4:37.28) and Wisolek in the 200 butterfly (2:09.97).
The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action Saturday, when it travels to Buffalo for a 1 p.m. Mid-American Conference showdown.
