Abby Milillo Earns MAC Offensive Weekly Honors
September 20, 2010 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State redshirt sophomore midfielder Abby Milillo (Fairfield, Ohio/Badin) has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Milillo becomes the second Cardinal this season to earn MAC weekly accolades, joining Brigit Reder who earned defensive honors earlier this month (Sept. 6).
"Abby's weekend display was outstanding," first-year head coach Craig Roberts said. "She finished both of her goals with great precision. She has work hard to get herself back from injury to where she is now. What I am most excited about is that although she is displaying quality performances, I still feel she has more to come."
Milillo scored a career-high five points as she led the Cardinals to their third straight road victory over the weekend as they defeated Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne 3-2 Saturday afternoon. The five points scored are the most for a Cardinal since Amy Holst tallied six points (three goals) against Akron (10/15/06). The victory improved the Cardinals to 6-2-0 on the season, which is their best start since 2005 when BSU opened the year 8-1-2.
Milillo, who entered the year with just four points on her career, played a role in all three of the Cardinals' goals in the victory as she scored two goals and handed out an assist on the game-winning tally. She found the back of the net in the 24th and 71st minutes of play, before assisting classmate Sarah Orisich on the game-clinching goal in the 72nd minute.
Milillo and the Cardinals open MAC play this weekend as they return home Friday afternoon and host rival Western Michigan. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at the BSU Soccer Field.
