Women?s Tennis Ends Day One Of Ball State Invite

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University women's tennis team opened fall play today as they hosted the Ball State Invitational at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
In the flight A single first round Georgina Thomson advanced after posting a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 over Illinois State's Abello. Thomson would later fall to Dayton's Dryer in the second round in two sets. Newcomer Kristel Sanders claimed her first collegiate victory over Eastern Kentucky's Oscoz in the back draw, 6-4, 5-7, (10-8).
In flight B Kylee Johnson opened the fall with a straight set win (6-1, 6-0) against Dayton's Glankler. Hayley Hall tallied a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Wright State while teammate Dena Boulieris also advanced to the second round in singles play. Johnson, Hall and Boulieris all claimed second round single victories to close out the day.
Lauren Pickrel and Sarah Hebble notched singles wins in flight C action.
Thomson and Boulieris beat Kiss and Abello of Illinois State 8-6 in flight A doubles. Also in doubles action Johnson and Pickrel defeated Sodini and Gigash of Wright State, 8-3 in flight B while Hall and Paola Rodriguez went 2-0 in flight C.
The Ball State University women's tennis team will close out action at the Ball State Invitational Saturday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
