Soccer Opens 2010 Fall Practice

MUNCIE, Ind. - Under the direction of first-year head coach Craig Roberts, the Ball State soccer team opened the 2010 preseason practice schedule Wednesday afternoon at the BSU Soccer Field. The Cardinals reported to campus Tuesday and partook in fitness testing Wednesday morning prior to the first practice of the year.
Roberts, who spent the past four seasons as the head coach at Tennessee-Martin, is the fourth head coach in Ball State's 12-year history. The Cardinals welcome back 14 letterwinners from last season's team, as well as 17 newcomers to this year's squad.
Leading the charge back for BSU is a pair of team captains' from last year in senior midfielder Cortney Coombs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) and redshirt junior defender Tina Vannatta (Powhatan, Va./Springboro). The two captains have played in 92 games during their careers in Muncie and bring a wealth of experience to the field.
Ball State will hold preseason practices leading up to August 14 when BSU opens the 2010 season with an exhibition contest on the road at Big East foe Cincinnati at 7 p.m. The Cardinals open the 2010 regular season at home at the BSU Soccer Field when they host Xavier August 20 at 4 p.m.
