MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team has been honored as a 2010 Scholar All-American Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
"We are very excited about the academic success of our program," said head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill. "For our student-athletes to achieve one of the highest grade-point averages in the nation while in the midst of a very demanding season makes this both a hard-earned and well-deserved honor."
The Cardinals finished the 2010 spring semester with a 3.43 team grade-point average to rank as the 23rd-best Division I institutions in the country. Ball State posted the second-highest GPA in the Mid-American Conference, trailing only Akron (3.54). BSU's team GPA was also the third-highest among Indiana schools, behind Evansville (3.59) and Purdue (3.49).
In addition to the team honors, senior diver Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way-Central) and sophomore diver Christina Riordan (Homewood, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor H.S.) were named to the 2010 Scholar All-American Honorable Mention Team after both qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving competition.
Maertin went on to place 16th in the three-meter event and 18th on the one-meter board at the 2010 NCAA Zone C Diving Championships hosted by Purdue.
The Ball State women's swimming & diving team also earned the award for the 2009 fall semester after posting a 3.36 team GPA during that grading period.
