Six Men's Golfers Advance in Indiana Amateur Championships

Six members of the Ball State men's golf team have advanced through the district qualifying stage of the Indiana Amateur and will compete at the championship June 21-24 at the Country Club of Indianapolis.
Joe Gasser, Tony Lazzara, Zac Henderson, Tyler Merkel, Connor O'Neal and Zac Treash each advanced to the Indiana Amateur Championships.
Lazzara advanced after placing second at the qualifier at The Players Club in Muncie, Ind., with a 71. Alex Stinson and Brodie Williams, both freshman members of the 2009-10 Ball State golf team, are alternates after tying for 12th at The Players Club.
Henderson tied for second at the Elbel Park Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., to advance. He managed a 70, one shot behind the site's winner.
Treash and Gasser advanced out of the qualifier at Bear Slide Golf Course with a 76 and 77, respectively.
Merkel and O'Neal, a pair of incoming freshman on the 2010-11 Ball State golf team, both advanced to the Indiana Amateur Championship. Merkel managed a 71 at the Terre Haute site, while O'Neal tied for 11th with a 73 at the Coyote Crossing Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
