Softball's Jessie Ware Celebrates Two Occasions Sunday
May 09, 2010 | Softball
MUNCIE, Ind. - On the softball diamond home is where you score runs for your team, but for Ball State senior Jessie Ware (Phoenix, Ariz./Hamilton), home has another meaning.
The Phoenix, Arizona native will step onto the Ball State softball diamond Sunday for her final regular-season game in college.
After the game, Ware - a wife and mother of two young daughters -- will celebrate Mother's Day at her other home.
"I cried almost every day," says Ware reflecting on her move to Muncie in January and leaving her husband and two daughters behind in Arizona. "I came here by myself and planned on not seeing my family until the end of the season. But, that didn't work out and they moved here January 27."
Ware, who played for BSU coach Craig Nicholson for one season at Central Arizona, leads the nation in triples and triples per game and has set four Ball State single-season records in 2010.
"She told me in November she wanted to come to Ball State and play softball again," Nicholson says. "She's had a tremendous impact on what we've accomplished this season."
With Ware leading the way at the plate and in the field, the Cardinals have clinched the Mid-American Conference Championship and will open postseason tournament play Wednesday at Akron.
"I'm going non-stop all day with classes, practice and games," Ware says. "Then I get to go home and be a wife and mother. The support they give to me is amazing."
And for this Mother's Day, Ware and her family will celebrate the special occasion together in Muncie.
