May 03, 2010 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State junior second basemen Kolbrin Vitek (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This is Vitek's third MAC weekly honor this season and the seventh weekly honor of his career.
Vitek led the Cardinals to their sixth straight MAC series victory as they took two out of three from Eastern Michigan over the weekend. He guided the Cardinals into a first place tie in the MAC West Division with a 13-5 record and helped BSU become the only team in the league to win each weekend series so far this year.
Vitek led the Cardinals to a 3-1 record on the week as he scored 10 runs and collected 10 RBI in the four games. He posted a 1.200 slugging percentage on the week as he hit four home runs, while posting a .400 batting average and .500 on-base percentage. He hit two home runs in Friday's victory over Eastern Michigan, including a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
On the season, Vitek leads the Cardinals with a .393 batting average and leads the starting pitchers with a 4.00 ERA in 54.0 innings of work. He also leads the team in hits (68), runs scored (61), RBI (57), home runs (14), slugging percentage (.746) and on-base percentage (.478).
Vitek and the Cardinals will be off during the midweek for final exams. The Cardinals return to action this weekend as they travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a three-game series at Western Michigan.
