Soccer Releases 2010 Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State first-year head soccer coach Craig Roberts announced a 19-game regular season schedule for the 2010 season Tuesday afternoon. The schedule includes eight non-conference contests and 11 Mid-American Conference games on the slate as well as a preseason exhibition game.
"The 2010 schedule will allow us to compete against high quality competition," Roberts said. "I believe each opponent has a different style which will allow us to prepare effectively for conference play. Our goal will be to take one game at a time and focus on team development."
Ball State will hold a final tune-up for the 2010 season with an exhibition game August 14 at Cincinnati. The game will be the Cardinals' first meeting against former BSU head coach and current Bearcat mentor Michelle Salmon.
The Cardinals open the 2010 regular season at home at the BSU Soccer Field for the first time since the 2007 campaign as they host Xavier August 20. Ball State continues its home-opening weekend August 22 when it welcomes in instate rival Indiana State. The Cardinals owns a 60-28-12 (.605) mark all-time in program history at the BSU Soccer Field.
Ball State hits the road for the remainder of the non-conference schedule as it plays six straight on the road. BSU will play at IUPUI August 27 and Big Ten power Illinois August 29. The Cardinals' road trip continues with visits to SIU-Edwardsville (Sept. 3), Southeast Missouri (Sept. 5), Western Kentucky (Sept. 10) and Duquesne (Sept. 18).
The Cardinals open MAC play at home September 24 as it hosts Western Michigan. Ball State will also host league opponents Miami (Oct. 8), Bowling Green (Oct.10), Eastern Michigan (Oct. 22), Central Michigan (Oct. 24) and Toledo (Oct. 28). BSU will travel to MAC foes Northern Illinois (Sept. 26), Akron (Oct. 1), Ohio (Oct. 3), Buffalo (Oct. 15) and Kent State (Oct. 17).
This season, the MAC will split into two divisions in soccer with the Cardinals being part of the West Division along with Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. The MAC East Division consists of Bowling Green, Miami, Ohio, Kent State, Akron and Buffalo.
The 2010 MAC Tournament will kick off with the quarterfinals October 31 with the semifinals and finals to be held Nov. 5 and 7, respectively. As always, the MAC Tournament quarterfinals will be held on campus sites while the semifinals and finals are held at the highest remaining seed.
