Softball's Milian Claims Her Seventh MAC-West Weekly Honor
May 12, 2010 | Softball
Elizabeth Milian (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc), Ball State's senior pitcher, has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week for her perfect 2-0 record against Akron and Ohio Friday and Sunday, the league office announced Tuesday. This is the seventh time this season Milian has won the MAC West weekly honor and the 13th nod of her career, including a Player of the Week honor in 2008.
The Cardinals' ace for four years, Milian posted one of her best conference performances of the season pitching two shutouts, including a one-hitter against Akron Friday for an ERA of zero this week. She also pitched in both games of the doubleheader against Ohio Sunday and was credited with a 4-0 win in game one, while allowing no runs in the second game after relieving Audra Sanders on the mound. The ace struck out 22 batters in 17.2 innings pitched and is 28-5 this season. Her 28 victories ranks as the 15th best in the nation.
Milian, a two-time member of MAC championship teams, also owns Ball State career records in games started (122), complete games (109), strikeouts (715) and saves (8) and is the single season leader in strikeouts and saves.
The senior will lead the co-MAC Champion Cardinals on the mound in the MAC Tournament, which begins when the Cardinals face the University at Buffalo Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Akron, Ohio.
