Women's Tennis Advances To Quarterfinals At MAC's

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The No. 8 Ball State University women's tennis team (8-14) captured a 4-2 defeat over No. 9 Northern Illinois (7-13) Thursday evening in the first round of the 2010 Mid-American Conference Tennis Championship hosted by Western Michigan University.
The Cardinals took the early 1-0 edge over the Huskies after winning the doubles point. After dropping No. 2 doubles Ball State rallied back to win at No. 1 when the BSU twosome of Kylee Johnson and Katherine Rist earned the 8-5 victory over Brooke Forseberg and Emily Rogers. Sarah Hebble and Lauren Pickrel defeated Stephanie Okuma and Kelly Phillips 9-7 to earn the point.
In singles action Hayley Hall finished her match first at the No. 1 spot winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 against Katherine Friedlund. Rist would put the Cardinals up 3-2 with her No. 5 defeat over Martina Schnapp, 6-2, 6-3. A three set victory from Hebble at position six would advance Ball State to the quarterfinals.
The Ball State University women's tennis team will take on No. 1 Miami in the quarterfinals Friday at 10 a.m.
