Softball's Wilczynski Named MAC West Player Of The Week
April 20, 2010 | Softball
Wilczynski led the Ball State offense with a .400 batting average throughout six games last week, including four conference games. She notched two multi-hit games and tallied five extra base hits in 15 at bats. In game two against Indiana, Wilczynski placed a well-executed sacrifice bunt that drove in a run for the Cardinals.
Then in Buffalo, N.Y., Wilczynski made a momentum changing play in each game of the doubleheader. In the first game against the Bulls, her home run reclaimed Ball State's lead and clinched the 3-2 win for the Cardinals. In game two she slugged her second home run of the day to earn two runs for Ball State in the first inning, and then hit a two RBI double in the top of the seventh to give the Cardinals a commanding four run lead that the Bulls would be unable to close. Ball State defeated Buffalo 8-4 in the second game.
In Sunday's game against Kent State, Wilczynski's double in the first inning was responsible for two of the Cardinals five runs against the Golden Flashes.
Starting 27 of the Cardinals 39 games this season, Wilczynski's .312 batting average and .558 slugging percentage is second only to Jessie Ware (Phoenix, Ariz./Hamilton) on the Ball State roster. In conference play, Wilczynski is batting at a .345 clip and leads the team with a .690 slugging percentage that includes four doubles, two home runs and nine RBI in just 10 games.
