Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at Rio Verde Invitational

Ball State's women's golf team finished sixth out of 18 teams at the Duramed Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Nev., moving up two spots on the final day.
Ball State tallied a 307-310-305=922, while Michigan won the event with a 291-287-303=881. Eastern Michigan finished third, while the Cardinals placed ahead of all the remaining Mid-American Conference schools at the event. Western Michigan was ninth, Toledo placed 13th, Ohio finished 16th, Akron was 17th and Bowling Green placed 18th.
Brittany Kelly, a junior for the Cardinals, finished sixth after firing a 72-73-77=222.
Senior Kirsty O'Connor tied for 15th with a 77-77-75=229. Junior Rachael Pruett managed a 77-83-74=234 to tie for 33rd. Kristtini Cain managed an 81-77-79=237, while Katie Windlan scored an 82-84-85=251.
The Duramed Rio Verde Invitational was hosted by Western Michigan, and addition to the MAC schools competing were Arkansas-Little Rock, Bradley, Cincinnati, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri State, Northern Arizona, Penn State, Southern Illinois and Xavier.
The tournament boasted eight teams ranked in the GolfStat.com Top 100, including Minnesota (56), Michigan (75), Kansas (77) and Eastern Michigan (85).
The event was played at The Quail Run and White Wing courses, newly designed by Tom Lehman Design Group.
Freshmen Autumn Duke and Chantelle Hefer competed with other individuals in the White Wing JV Invitational, which was a 36-hole event. Hefer shot an 80-77 in her first collegiate event to finish sixth out of the 20 competitors. Duke tallied a 75-87 and placed 13th at the event.
Ball Sate will now play in the UNLV Spring Invitational Monday thru Wednesday at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nev.
