Maggert Sets Record For Rebounds In A Season At Toledo

Despite the loss Ball State has secured the right to host a first round game in the upcoming MAC Tournament.
For the game, junior forward Emily Maggert earned her 21st career double-double after scoring 15 points while pulling down 13 rebounds. Maggert has moved to first all-time for rebounds in a season with her 13 boards. Maggert passes Jessica Reiter who has held the record since 2003-04 with 294 rebounds. Maggert now has 312 rebounds this season.
Junior guard Ty'Ronda Benning also reached double digits after chipping in 12 points on the day and senior guard Audrey McDonald had 11 points.
In the opening minutes of the second half Ball State had built a five point cushion 34-29 after Benning hit a three pointer at the 15:55 mark.
Toledo then went on a 5-0 run to tie the ball game Ball State would then trail the Rockets until McDonald hit two free throws to knot it at 36-36 with 13:12 left to play.
The Cardinals were held scoreless for several minutes allowing the Rockets to go up by nine (50-41) lead with under four minutes remaining.
Ball State was unable to overcome Toledo's late scoring surge and strong defense in the second half.
It was a close first half as both teams stayed close with five ties and three lead changes. Toledo scored first to take an early 3-0 lead over Ball State but McDonald's trey at the 16:40 mark evened the score.
The Cardinals trailed by as many as five (16-11) before Benning and Maggert knocked down back-to-back three pointers with 7:12 left in the first period to take a 17-16 advantage over the Rockets.
The game was tied 22-22 with about a minute left to play but senior forward Danielle Gratton hit two from the charity stripe to give the Cardinals a 24-20 halftime lead over the Rockets.
The Ball State University women's basketball team will host Central Michigan Tuesday for its senior night with a 7 p.m. tipoff at Worthen Arena. The Cardinals will recognize McDonald and Gratton.
