MUNCIE, Ind. - - With six school record holders and two NCAA Zone Diving Qualifiers highlighting the roster, the Ball State women's swimming & diving team looks poised for a big showing at the 2009-10 Mid-American Conference Championships which start Wednesday at Miami's Nixon Aquatic Center.
"As a team, I feel we are well prepared for this year's meet," said BSU head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill. "We have a number of student-athletes with the potential to place in the top eight this season in what will be a very level field."
Action in the four-day meet, which runs through Saturday, Feb. 28, begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday with finals in the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay. Click Here for a complete meet schedule.
Leading the charge for BSU is senior diver Lisa Maertin, who placed in the top eight on both boards at last season's league meet. Earlier this season, Maertin posted an NCAA Zone Diving Qualifying score of 280.65 on the one meter board. Sophomore diver Christina Riordan also recorded a NCAA Zone Diving Qualifying mark on the one meter board with a score of 271.90.
Returning school record holders for the Cardinals include senior Mary Ehresman (400 IM - 4:25.41 and 400 medley relay - 3:49.49), senior Emily Karwoski (200 IM - 2:05.66), senior Sarah Kehe (800 freestyle relay 7:35.05), junior Katie Bylsma (400 medley relay - 3:49.49), junior Maria Gramelspacher (100 fly - 55.79, 400 medley relay - 3:49.49 and 800 freestyle relay - 7:35.05) and sophomore Nicole Saulters (100 back - 57.12 and 400 medley relay - 3:49.49).
Also looking to make an impact for the Cardinals is junior Alanna Bader, as well as sophomores Sara Hostetler and Elizabeth Spilman. All three have been played a large role in the Cardinals success this season.
