Track & Field Posts 14 Top 10?s At Hoosier Hills Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State women's indoor track & field team posted 14 top 10 finishes in Friday's Hoosier Hills Invitational at Indiana's Gladstein Field House. The meet was a non-scored event.
Junior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) was one of the Cardinals top finishers, posting a season-best time of 8.79 in the 60m hurdles to finish third. Marable also turned in a 14th-place time of 7.96 in the 60m dash and a 24th-place clocking of 26.25 in the 200m dash.
Sophomore Christine Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) added the Cardinals' second third-place effort, with a time of 1:35.40 in the 600m run. Senior Brittany Ade (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger H.S.) also had a solid showing in the 600m run, placing seventh (1:39.41).
In the 3000m run, senior Vanessa Gilbert (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont H.S.) crossed the finish line in a season-fast 10:10.96 to take home fourth, while junior Megan Cherry (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) posted a leap of 35-07.50 in the triple jump to take fourth in that event.
Sophomore Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) recorded a pair of top 10 efforts, placing sixth in the 200m dash with a season-best effort of 25.08 and earning seventh in the 60m dash (7.85). Freshman Alyssa Hurlburt (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North H.S.) also scored a pair of top 10 efforts, placing eighth in both the triple jump (32-08.50) and the long jump (16-05.75).
In the 400m dash, three different Cardinals earned top 10 finishes with sophomore Renyae Owsley (Indianapolis, Ind./Northwest H.S.) leading the way in sixth with a season-best time of 57.55. Senior Jenna Schmitmeyer (Celina, Ohio/Celina H.S.) crossed the line just behind in seventh (57.79), while freshman Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) placed eighth (57.95).
Rounding out BSU's top 10 performers were freshman Sharise Logwood (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) with a seventh-place effort in the long jump (16-11.25) and junior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) with a 10th-place showing in the triple jump (5-01.00).
The Ball State women's indoor track & field team returns to action Friday, when it hosts league foes Miami, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan at the BSU Field Sports Building for the 2010 Ball State Quadrangular which starts with competition in the field events at 5 p.m. It will be the Cardinals' lone home meet of the season.

MEET PREVIEW
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's indoor track & field team will head to Bloomington, Ind., for the second time this season when it competes in the Hoosier Hills Invitational Friday at Indiana's Gladstein Fieldhouse. Action in the meet gets underway at 5 p.m. with the women's long jump and the women's 60-meter hurdles.
In the team's first trip to Bloomington this season, Ball State's student-athletes posted 15 top five performances in the Gladstein Invitational (Jan. 22-23). The Cardinals' top event at the meet was the 60-meter dash, with three runners finishing in the top five slots. Sophomore Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) was BSU's top sprinter, clocking in at 7.87 to place third. Junior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) followed in fourth (7.95), while senior Katie Johnson (Evansville, Ind./Harrison H.S.) took home fifth (7.96).
Last weekend, the Cardinals sent limited numbers to the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. At the meet, junior Thekla Lorenz (Hamburg, Germany) posted a season-best leap of 19-01.50 in the long jump to place eighth overall and second among league entries. Her effort currently ranks third in the Mid-American Conference.
Next Friday, the Cardinals will host their lone home event of the season as they invite league foes Miami, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan to the BSU Field Sports Building for the 2010 Ball State Quadrangular which starts with competition in the field events at 5 p.m.
After the first four meets of the season, 10 of BSU's student-athletes rank in the top 20 in the MAC rankings, along with two relays.
