WBB Ends 2010 with A Win Over St. Louis

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University women's basketball team (5-7) ended the 2010 non-conference season with a 78-59 victory over St. Louis (6-8) Thursday night in Worthen Arena.
Ball State had three Cardinals in double figures with senior forward Emily Maggert leading the squad after scoring 26 points. Senior guard Ty'Ronda Benning chipped in 22 points and classmate Ebony Jackson ended the night with 11.
The Cardinals came out of the gates strong in the second half after a jumper from Benning, Ball State proceeded to go on a 7-0 run to take 30-26 lead over the Billikens. St. Louis would manage a run of its own to tie the game at 33-33 with 15:45 on the clock.
Three pointers from Maggert and junior Megan Craft along with baskets from freshman Jazmine Hitchens and Woody allowed the Cardinals to orchestrate a 15-0 scoring spurt earning BSU its largest lead of the ball game 53-39 with 9:01 left on the clock.
After that Ball State continued to control the game up 61-47 just under the 5:00 minute mark, the Billikens were unable to come back from the Cardinals 15-0 run earlier on in the half.
The Billikens took the early 7-2 advantage over the Cardinals in the opening minutes of the first half, freshman guard Brandy Woody knocked down a three pointer which sparked a 5-0 run for Ball State to knot the game 7-7 in the early minutes of the contest. Both teams would trade baskets the remainder of the first period which resulted in four ties and lead changes but St. Louis would come out on top to end the half with a three-point (26-23) edge over the Cardinals.
