Schramm Named MAC Defensive Player Of The Week
November 02, 2010 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State soccer freshman goalkeeper Layne Schramm (The Colony, Texas/The Colony) has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Schramm also was named to the CollegeSoccer360.com National Primetime Performers of the Week for her efforts.
Schramm helped lead the Cardinals to the biggest upset in MAC play this season as the Cardinals defeated MAC champion Toledo 1-0 in the season finale. The Cardinals became the first team in MAC play to knock off the Rockets and denied Toledo's chance at becoming the first MAC team to post an 11-0-0 record in league play.
Schramm also guided the Cardinals to their first MAC win of the season as she tallied six saves in the shutout. She posted her first career shutout in the victory and her second career victory. She finished her rookie campaign playing 859:53 in net and posting an 1.88 goals against average.
Schramm becomes the third different Cardinal to win a MAC weekly award and the second to earn defensive accolades. She joins redshirt sophomore Abby Milillo (Fairfield, Ohio/Badin) and sophomore Brigit Reder (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) as MAC weekly winners this season.
