November 13, 2010 | Women's Basketball
The Cardinals were led by senior guard Ty'Ronda Benning who ended the night with 16 points. Ball State had two other players score in double figures IU transfer and senior guard Ebony Jackson chipped in 13 points while senior forward Emily Maggert finished with 10 points. Defensively Maggert and E. Jackson brought down nine boards apiece.
The Hoosiers came out of the gates quickly in the second half, scoring seven straight unanswered points to go up 47-40 over the Cardinals. Benning's layup and free throw at the 16:04 mark snapped IU's run.
IU held BSU scoreless for over four minutes while going on a 9-0 run building its biggest cushion of the game 56-43 with 11:56 left to play. Maggert would hit a layup with 10:18 left in the contest that ended the Hoosiers' run.
The second half early deficit was too much for the Cardinals to come back from with scoring woes continuing to plague BSU the remainder of the ball game.
In the first half IU opened the game with a 4-0 run before junior forward Suzanne Grossnickle scored the first Cardinals basket off of a long jumper from about the three point line. Both teams played at an up tempo pace with multiple ties and lead changes.
Ebony Jackson knotted the game at 33-33 for the sixth time with under a minute to play. With 45 seconds on the clock Ball State took the lead 34-33 for the first time since the 7:58 mark after Maggert went 1-1 from the free throw line. As time was winding down IU went on a 4-0 run to head into the locker room at the half with a 38-36 edge over the Cardinals.
At the half BSU led IU statistically in field goal percentage 46.7 to 40.6 percent and from behind the arc 37.5 to IU's 22.2 percent.
