MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team fell to Mid-American Conference foe Miami, 2-0, Friday afternoon at the BSU Turf Field. The Cardinals and RedHawks finished the contest deadlocked in shots, 10-10, however Miami capitalized on 2-of-5 shots on goal.
Miami's Jackie Nguyen provided the first scoring opportunity for the RedHawks, as the junior forward tapped in a shot from across the net at 16:30 mark. Freshman midfielder Emily Gruesser followed that performance with Miami's second and final goal of the day at 29:53 mark. Senior forward Mary Hull provided the assists on the day.
Junior midfielder Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) and junior forward Brittany Hammer (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's) tallied seven and three shots during the contest, respectively, while junior midfielder Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) finished with her third defensive save of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Hammer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) recorded two saves in the cage, while the RedHawks' Sarah Mueller tallied five in 70 minutes of action.
The Cardinals return to the BSU Turf field Saturday as Ball State hosts Missouri State at 1 p.m. The contest marks the 19th meeting between the two teams, as the Cardinals own a 13-5 series advantage against the Bears. Missouri State finished the 2009 season with a 4-16 record (1-9 MAC).
