
Women?s Basketball Loses On The Road At Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ball State University women's basketball team fell at Ohio Saturday afternoon 62-59 at the Convocation Center. With the loss the Cardinals drop to 9-12 overall and 3-5 in the Mid-American Conference while the Bobcats improve to 6-15 overall and 2-6 in league play.
For the game junior forward Emily Maggert led Ball State with 16 points and seven boards while classmate guard Ty'Ronda Benning chipped in 10 points.
Senior guard Audrey McDonald started the second half with a three pointer. McDonald has now made a three pointer in 23 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Ball State took the lead after senior forward Danielle Gratton hit a jumper in the paint to make it 44-43 with 12:30 left to play in the game.
Both teams would trade baskets for the next eight minutes. Benning was fouled after making a layup and completed the three point play to tie the contest 56-56 at the four minute mark. Benning gave the Cardinals a 58-56 edge after driving to the basket soon after that.
A 60-59 ball game under the two minute mark, Ohio was sent to the line and made both free throws to go up 62-59. Ball State was unable to score losing the game in the final seconds.
Despite opening the game with a 7-0 run over Ohio, the Cardinals trailed at the half to the Bobcats 33-31. Maggert led Ball State at the end of the first period with 10 points.
Ball State remains on the road in Mid-American Conference action as they travel to Miami Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Millett Hall.
