Women's Basketball Loses In Overtime

With the loss, the Cardinals fell to 9-11 overall and 3-4 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Zips improved to 11-9 overall and 5-2 in league play.
Despite the 13th double-double of the season by Emily Maggert, the Cardinals were outscored 7-5 in the overtime period and suffered the loss.
The Cardinals took a 60-59 lead in the extra period on a free throw by Amber Crago. A pair of free throws by Ty'Ronda Benning with 3:30 left in overtime gave Ball State a 62-59 advantage.
Maggert's layup with 2:11 to play in the game gave Ball State a 64-63 lead - its final of the game - but also accounted for the final points for the Cardinals. A three pointer by Akron's Taylor Ruper with 1:10 remaining in the contest accounted for the final points of the night and gave the Zips the victory.
A 6-0 run sparked by a jumper from Crago allowed the Cardinals to begin the second half on a strong note.
Akron fought back to tie the game 54-54 with under five minutes remaining. The Zips went ahead to take its first lead of the night 55-54 at the 3:46 mark after Rachel Tecca knocked down a free throw.
Benning hit a trey with under two minutes to play to tie the game 59-59 sending the game into overtime.
Akron led 66-64 with seconds on the clock in overtime. Ball State regained possession with 16 seconds on the clock but couldn't make a last second shot.
The Cardinals opened the first half with a 9-0 start after back-to-back three pointers from senior guard Audrey McDonald. Ball State eventually built a 19-6 cushion over the Zips with 12:11 remaining in the half.
Akron slowly chipped away at the Cardinals lead after going on a 6-0 run the Zips had came within four (23-19) with 5:29 on the clock. The Zips came within one (26-25) with under a minute remaining but Ball State managed to hold on to its lead to end the half.
Maggert who is averaging a double-double per contest was held to four points and four rebounds in the first half.
